IS DEMOCRACY POSSIBLE IN IRAN ?IRAN'S SUPREME LEADERS AND THE MULLAHS HAVE BROKEN PROMISES ON PROVERYTY.FOR IRAN REGIME RELIGION DEFINES POLICIES.
In 1989, the Iran Republic’s founder and first supreme leader, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, death. He promised Iranian people they would live a better economic situation compared to the one under the Shah Iran Mohammad Reza Pahlavi .

In 1979, shortly after the shah had been toppled, the new theocratic ruler Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini promised free electricity, water supplies and transportation services to all Iranians, to be paid for by oil revenues under a “just” Islamic economic system.Yet this promise - repeated by several Iranian presidents after him to make the poor feel the benefits of Iran’s oil wealth - was never delivered. Many Iranians are still facing day-to-day problems with feeding their families and paying their rent and bills. In today’s Iran, at least 15 million citizens live below the poverty line, reports have suggested, although some analysts expect the real figure to be higher.Estimate that out of Iran’s 77 million population, 10 million are jobless. While thousands are homeless, living in the streets.Since the Islamic Republic’s establishment in 1979, only two men have held the most powerful office in the country. Khamenei briefly served as minister of defense and supervisor of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) before becoming president in 1981. He was the third man to hold that office during the revolution’s tumultuous beginnings; the Islamic Republic’s first president,Abolhassan Banisadr, was impeached by parliament in 1981 and fled Iran as part of the regime’s opposition. Banisadr’s successor.
Iran's supreme leaders Mohammad Khatami, and Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani and Ali Hosseini Khamenei .Iranian regime’s constitution is emblematic of those priorities; vesting all final authority with the supreme leader, especially critical areas such as foreign policy, the military and judiciary. The control of virtually all sectors of Iranian life places the Iranian people squarely under the thumb of the mullahs.
The appalling human rights situation in Iran has not improved since Hassan Rouhani - touted in some circles in the West as a "moderate" and a "reformer" - became president of the Islamic Republic in 2013.Since taking office, more than 2,000 people have been hung under Rouhani's watch, the biggest scale of executions in the past 25 years, adding to the black pages of the regime's history of human rights violations since the Iranian revolution in 1979.The execution spree in the first half of 2015 was not missed by the human rights group Amnesty International, which noted that "death sentences in Iran are particularly disturbing because they are invariably imposed by courts that are completely lacking in independence and impartiality".A lot of those who are executed come from minority communities such as the Ahwazi Arabs – who are predominately Shia - as well as Kurdish and Baluchi Sunnis. The targeting of minorities has not changed since the coming of Rouhani to office.Over the past decade, many Ahwazi Arab political prisoners, ranging from poets and teachers to bloggers and human rights activists, have been executed on trumped-up charges in kangaroo courts. Again, nothing has improved under Rouhani.
For more than a year, the Assembly of Experts, the body of clerics charged with advising and choosing the country’s supreme leader, has blocked efforts by the Ministry of Interior to increase the number of Assembly seats in provinces where there has been population growth.
Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is the single most powerful individual in a highly factionalized, autocratic regime. Major domestic and foreign policy decisions require his consent, and his top priorities are his own survival and that of the Islamic Republic.Khamenei has been Iran’s supreme leader since 1989, making him the second longest serving autocrat in the Middle East (after Oman’s Sultan Qaboos) as well as the second longest-serving Iranian leader of the last century, after Shah Mohammed Reza Pahlavi. He hasn’t left Iran since becoming Supreme Leader.Islamic world: Khamenei envisions Iran as the vanguard of the Islamic world. On his official website, he is referred to as the “Supreme Leader of Muslims.” Given Iran’s political, cultural and religious influence, he believes none of the critical issues facing the Middle East and Muslim world can be fully addressed or resolved without Tehran’s input. In contrast to much of the international media that referred to popular uprisings in the Middle East as an “Arab Spring,” Khamenei has consistently referred to it as an “Islamic Awakening.”
In Iran, public executions occurred regularly during the Qajar dynasty but declined with the Persian Constitutional Revolution and became a rare occurrence under the Pahlavi dynasty. With the establishment of the Islamic Republic of Iran in 1979, public executions returned on an unprecedented scale.
